Against The Wind is a recent addition to my Delaware River Series.
As the storm clouds parted I glanced across the river noticing the ice resting on the surface of the water. Like dancing diamonds the ice sparkled glinting hues of pink and orange as the sun started it's journey to announce a brand new day. The blue shades of darkness lightened and a glow of deep orange appeared as the sun pushed forward on it's joyous journey rising into the color streaked sky.By a cue heard only by them the birds took flight racing towards the rising sun. With all their might the birds soared against the wind intent on only one thing joining with the sun once again. This celebration, a new day, how joyful it felt to be a part of this journey. As the birds strained their wings with all their might, climbing that last stretch, exhaustion setting in, the thing that kept them flying wasn't just their moment in the sun.It was their journey together,the obstacles they had overcome,and the gratitude they felt to be able to soar against the wind. Just when they thought the wind had won them over a final surge of strength grew within their hearts and they pushed eagerly forward floating freely gently making their last descent in the warm air as the sun rose fully across the warming sky.© 2016 Robyn L.
